Mount Rushmore National Memorial
is an impressive sculpture of a mountain South Dakota with the faces of presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. A mountain with a height of 1737 m (5700 ft) is in the Black Hills and was conceived by Doane Robinson in 1923 in an attempt to attract tourism to the South Dakota A sculptor, Gutzon Borglum was commissioned to sculpt the highest zone of Mount Rushmore would receive more sunlight. Borglum began work in 1927 creating a model from plaster, used dynamite to blow up the rock until a thin layer of granite. In 1941 and the work almost completed, Borglum died and the details of the end of the work were in charge of his son, Lincoln.
