The famous Christchurch Cathedral is in the city center and was built between 1864 and 1910, is an excellent example of Victorian Gothic style. The Roman Catholic Cathedral is of Renaissance style. The town is between the Pacific Ocean and the rivers Avon Heathcote and Waimakakiri and the Port Hills. Christchurch is also known as the Garden City due to the open spaces as the Botanic Gardens and the Victoria and Hagley Parks.
