The Abel Tasman is the smallest national park
of New Zealand and is situated at Tasman Bay on South Island. It was founded in 1942 by three hundredth anniversary of the Dutch captain’s disastrous attempt to land in Golden Bay. The park has stunning beaches, excellent hiking, kayaking and sailing. One of the most famous Great Walks of New Zealand is the Abel Tasman Coastal Track, it takes three to five days. This wonderful walk features amazing views of beaches and blue-green waters of the bay. Motekua is the nearest town of the park and you can get it by road from Nelson, 80 km (50 mi) away.
