The three glorious temples of Paestum,
are the most important Greek monuments, located south of Naples. Paestum was founded in the 6th century BC, and because its location near the coast, Poseidonia was named in honor of god of the sea, Poseidon. Until the 1st century BC, was an important Roman port, no longer relevant due to the decline of the empire, to the attacks of the Saracens and the outbreak of Malaria. The temples were discovered in the 20th century, and today is considered by UNESCO, a World Heritage Site. The three Paestum temples are the Temple of Ceres, dedicated to Athena, the Basilica, dedicated to the goddess Hera and the Temple of Neptune, in fact dedicated to Apollo.
