The Sorbonne is the most famous
University of Paris. It was founded in 1253 as a college of theology, for poor students but soon became the main centre of theological studies in France. It owes its name to Robert de Sorbon, the philosophers Thomas Aquinas and Roger Bacon, taught here. Dante was one of the students of the university. Its tradition of conservatism led to the closure during the Revolution, was reopened by Napoleon in 1806. At the Sorbonne attended to riots by students in 1968. Near the Sorbonne is located the majestic Pantheon of Paris. Hotels in Paris
