The Place Vendôme was designed
by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the architect of Versailles in 1698. The architect designed the façades of this elegant royal square for Louis XIV located in the heart of Paris. Originally should settle the foreign embassies here, but bankers quickly occupied the area rising luxury homes. Today there are still jewelers and financial businesses here. The famous Ritz Hotel, was established in the Place Vendôme, in the early 20th century. The central column topped by a statue of Napoleon, is a replica of the destroyed by the Commune in 1871.
