In the region of Anatolia in Turkey,
lies the Cappadocia, a huge plateau, dominated by the extinct volcano Erciyesdagi. Over millions of years, there were frequent eruptions that covered the plateau with tufa, a soft rock formed by volcanic ash, which over the centuries has been eroded into bizarre conical hills with various colors like yellow, purple, off-white, pink and red. The rain and wind have carved these hills, some have 50 m (165 ft). These chimneys serve as shelter being cool in summer and warm in winter. However these were carved rocks, monasteries, churches and houses that focus largely on the Goreme Valley. It is one of the most beautiful and most visited places in Turkey. Hotels in Cappadocia
