Situated on the east coast of Spain,
Valencia is a modern city with a vast history. Jaime I of Aragon in 1238, recaptured the city from the Moors and then became one of the most important cities in the Mediterranean. Were Valencian merchants, who funded the patronage of Queen Isabella, the historical journey made by Christopher Columbus in 1492. The port of Valencia, El Grao, is very important in the economic development of the city, tourism is also an important source of revenue. The Valencian Community, the region that Valencia is the capital, has some of the most important cities of Spain beach-resorts like Benidorm and Alicante. In Valencia there are daily ferries to the Balearic islands as Ibiza, Majorca or Menorca. The center has its “heart” in the old part, where the Plaza de la Reina or the Gothic Cathedral lies. The octagonal bell tower is a city landmark, offers the best views of the city. There are many churches and Lonja de la Seda (silk exchange), a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Barrio del Carmen is one of the most typical of Valencia, where they are plenty of restaurants and bars. Outside the walls (now demolished) of the Old Town , is the modern part of Valencia, wide boulevards and the City of Arts and Sciences, designed by architect Santiago Calatrava. There are other sites that Valencia must visit as the Basilica de los Desampados, Torres de Serranos, St.Nicholas Church, the Sant Joan del Mercat, Plaza del Mercado and Plaza del Cordillo. Valencia Airport (VLC): There are flights to/from several European cities.
The Metrobus connects the airport and Plaza de España every 25 minutes, the journey takes about 30-40 minutes and the ticket cost 1,45€.
By train and bus: There are trains and buses to/from many Spanish cities.
