In the 10th century,
this jewel of Andalusia was the largest city in Western Europe and one of the largest in the world. It was a great center political, cultural and economic. The town began to grow in the year 711, when the Moors entered Spain. Cordoba was then ruled by Abd Ar-Rahman, a charismatic leader who introduced an ambitious construction program in the city. The greatest legacy was the mosque, one of the most beautiful buildings in Europe. When Cordoba was reconquered by the Christians, the mosque suffered alterations and inside, built a cathedral. The marble columns of stone, terracotta tiles and stone dome, make this Mosque-Cathedral, one of the most impressive buildings in Europe. Next to the mosque there is the medieval Jewish quarter, a labyrinth of narrow streets, not to be missed. Another beautiful building in Cordoba is the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, a fortified palace of the century 14. The Palacio de Viana of the 17th century is also worth a visit. Hotels in Cordoba
