Founded by Tsar Peter the Great in 1703,
as the capital of the Russian empire, remained more than 200 years until the government moved to Moscow after the revolution in 1917. The city was built on the delta of the Neva River in the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. In the year 1941 St Petersburg was besieged for 900 days, many died but the city recovered. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, has a style more Parisian than Russian. The Hermitage is a museum at the level the Louvre, buildings lush and rich collections inside. The Winter Palace dominates the banks of the Neva. The Nevsky Prospect Avenue is the main artery of the city, there are many attractions such as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan. Churches imposing and breathtaking abound in St Petersburg, St Isaac’s Cathedral and Church of the Saviour of the Spilled Blood are others that deserve to be explored. On the other bank of the Neva River, lies the Peter and Paul fortress that includes a beautiful cathedral. The whole complex is very pretty and spacious.
