Bremen is the oldest coastal city of Germany.
From a small fishing village, Bremen became the second most important port city of the country, after Hamburg. The Marktplatz (Market Place Square) is the heart of Bremen, is surrounded by stunning 13th century buildings, many of which were restored after the World War II. During the Middle Ages, Bremen was one of the most important cities of the Hanseatic League, a famous alliance of trading guilds that established and maintained a strategic trade monopoly on Northern Europe between the 13th and 17th centuries. The Altstadt (Old Town) is where you can find the major tourist spots of Bremen like the Rathaus (Town Hall), the Bottcherstrasse and the beautiful Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings. The beautiful Town Hall and the emblematic statue called Roland both located in Marktplatz are considered World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Hotels in Bremen
