Berlin was the capital of the Kingdom
of Prussia (1701-1918), the German Empire (1871-1918), the Weimar Republic (1919-1933) and the Third Reich (1933-1945). After World War II the city was divided, East Berlin became the capital of East Germany while West Berlin was surrounded by the Berlin Wall (1961-1989) and belonged to West Germany. After reunification in 1990, Berlin regained its status as the capital of all Germany. Currently Berlin erased his dark past and became one of the most vibrant cities in Europe. The architectural richness and culture of Berlin increasingly bring tourism to the city. The Brandenburg Gate is the city’s main attraction but there are some places not to be missed such as the Schloss Charlottenburg, the Reichstag which is the German parliament and the Cathedral. The great museum complex called Museum Island which includes the amazing Pergamon Museum is worth to visit. Museum Island is situated on the banks of the River Spree. There are some places not to be missed in Berlin like Potsdamer Platz, Alexander Platz, Berlin Rathaus (city hall), the Sony Center, the neighborhood Kurfurstendamm, Check Point Charlie, Berlin Wall Memorial and the magnificent avenue Unter den Linden. There are plenty of flights to the airports of Berlin. Not far from Berlin lies the city of Potsdam with the wonderful Sanssouci Palace. Hotels in Berlin
