Situated on the north western coast
of Peninsula Malaysia, the entrance to the Strait of Malacca, Penang is separated from the mainland by a channel that varies between 3 km (1.9 mi) and 13 km (8 mi). The Penang Bridge, with 13.5 km (8.4 mi) is one of the largest bridges in the world and connects Penang to the mainland. The island has the oldest British settlement in Malaysia, which was founded by Captain Francis Light in 1786. The capital of Penang is George Town, a city with some skyscrapers and very massified tourism. The city combines modern and antique, there are colorful markets products alongside high tech manufacturers. Penang Hill (Bukit Bendera) to 900 m (2953 ft) tall provides incredible views. Monkey Beach, Pantai Acheh, Gertak Sanggul, Muka Head and Pantai Keracut are some of the best beaches in Penang.
