On top of the remote mountains,
the Aztecs built a city in the 14th century, two centuries later, the Spaniards have adopted it as the capital of New Spain. Three hundred years later became the capital of independent Mexico. The center of Mexico City is a combination of colonial buildings, and pre Spanish. The Zócalo is the main town square, the heart of Mexico City and where is the magnificent Metropolitan Cathedral. It is a cultural city with great museums like the Museum of Modern Art, the National Museum of Anthropology, the Palace of Fine Arts, the National Palace and the House of Diego Rivera.
