Bogotá is the capital of Colombia,
it was founded in 1538 by the Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada. Bogotá was a major cultural centre and became the capital of the Viceroyalty of Nueva Granada in 1740. In 1819 ended the Spanish domination with the independence of Colombia. The historic centre of Bogota, known as La Candelaria, has a bohemian atmosphere, narrow streets, colonial balconies, small shops and many bars and restaurants. The Plaza Bolivar has stunning buildings, especially the baroque Cathedral Primada and the neo-classical National Capitol that took 79 years to built. Don’t miss the Casa de Nariño, the Museo del Oro, the Zona Rosa (Pink Zone), the Museo Arqueologico and the churches of Concepción, Candelaria, Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, San Francisco, del Carmen, Porciuncula, de Bosa, Usuaquen and San Agustin.
