La Paz is the capital of Bolivia

and the highest capital city on the planet at 3660 m (12004 ft). The visitor need to be careful to gradually acclimatize to this high altitude. The city of La Paz lies in a huge canyon in Andes Mountains with the great Mount Illimani in the background. This huge mountain at 6402 m (21000 ft) is always present on La Paz’s landscape. Close La Paz on the top of a canyon, lies the neighbour city of El Alto, a melting pot of farmers and people from all Bolivia that come to start a new life in La Paz and its suburbs.
