Mendoza is an Argentine city founded in 1561
by Pedro del Castillo. 300 years later it was destroyed by a strong earthquake and the Frenchman Balloffet was responsible for its reconstruction. Mendoza is known as “Oasis City”, because the network of irrigation channels that maintains the city green. In the west of the city there is the huge Parque General San Martin. Mendoza is popular among mountain climbers, is a great base for climbing Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere.
