Memphis is a city located in the state of Tennessee.
Located on the banks of the Mississippi River, Memphis is famous for its connections to music. There were many musicians who grew up in Memphis for several types of music such as blues, gospel, jazz, soul, r & b and rock and roll. Muddy Waters, Tina Turner, Sam Cooke, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Justin Timberlake and John Lee Hooker are examples of musicians from Memphis. The greatest musician of all was undoubtedly Elvis Presley, who lived at Graceland, his home receives half a million visitors annually. There are several places of Memphis, which pay tribute to the music as Stax Museum of America n Soul Music, the Memphis Walk of Fame, the Gibson Guitar Factory and Showcase, the Center for Southern Folklore, the Memphis Music and Heritage Festival and the Memphis Rock n Soul Museum. Beale Street is the area of Memphis where the music is most present. April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King was assassinated in Memphis, the former motel where he was killed, now houses the National Museum of Civil Rights. Besides the museums related to music, there are other museums like the Cotton Museum, the Memphis Books Museum of Art, the Peabody Place Museum, the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, the Children Museum of Memphis and the Pink Palace Museum.
