Okinawa is the main island
and a famous province with the same name in Japan that was once the capital of an independent kingdom. Okinawa has its own culture, in some ways, very different from the rest of Japan. The Ryukyu tradition is present in the stunning medieval castles and sites called Gusuku which include hundreds of sacred groves called Utaki. Munchu is a cultural and religious tradition of Okinawa, families gather on certain dates, to remember the connection with their ancestors. Okinawa has some UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Southwest of Okinawa Island stands the Sakishima Islands that is composed for several islands, it is the southernmost point inhabited of Japan.
