Hateruma Island is on the
southernmost tip of Japan, in the Pacific Ocean, near the Tropic of Cancer. Hateruma (Hateruma jima) belongs to the Yaeyama Island group in Okinawa province. This lovely coral island has Indian almonds, banyan trees, bamboo orchids and colorful hibiscus. The ideal is to explore the island by bicycle, the roads are empty, the island is small and there is only one village in central Hateruma. The beaches are stunning, especially Nishi Beach, where colorful fish can be seen, this beach was often considered the most beautiful of Japan. Hateruma is also a famous astronomical observatory.
