In full state of emergency
after an outbreak of plague that have wiped out half the population of Venice, the Senate agreed to erect a temple to worship the Redeemer if end the epidemic. It was decided to build the Il Redentore on Giudecca, a small island south of the Dorsoduro neighborhood, which was visible to the rest of the city. The architect Andrea Palladio was responsible for the construction of Il Redentore. It is one of the most famous and beautiful churches of Venice. Hotels in Venice
