The Grand Canal is the main “highway”
of Venice, crossing the city in the large shape “S”. On its route from Piazzale Roma to Piazza San Marco, goes through about 200 stunning buildings that mark the history of Venice. The vaporetto number 1 makes the journey, they are the water buses in Venice. The Grand Canal has four bridges, the Rialto Bridge, Ponte della Accademia, Ponte degli Scalzi and the newest bridge, designed by Santiago Calatrava, the Ponte della Constituzione. Almost all of the historic buildings of Venice are on the banks of the Grand Canal. Virtually all architectural styles are present in Venice, from the Byzantine-Venetian style, the Venetian-Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque Venitian, Neoclassical to Modern Era. The most sumptuous palaces on the Grand Canal are the Palazzo Ca’Pesaro, Palazzo Ca’Dario , Palazzo Ca ‘Rezzonico, Palazzo Grassi, Palazzo Ca d’Oro and the Palazzo Ca’Foscari. There are other historical buildings such as the Fondaco dei Turchi, the Fondaco Tedeschi and Pescheria of Mercato, the fish market. Harry’s Bar is one of the most famous bars in the world, was the refuge from Hemingway, a Venice lover. The church Santa Maria della Salute is an imposing church on the Grand Canal.
