Large part of the Piazza della Rotonda
is occupied by one of the most fascinating and historical buildings of Rome, the Pantheon. The inscription of the architrave remember the first constructor, Agrippa, son in law of Augustus. The original building was erected in 27 BC but a fire in 80 AD destroyed important part of the Pantheon which led the Emperor Hadrian ordered to construct another building which stood between 118 and 125 AD that is preserved until the present day. It is possibly one of the most austere and sober buildings of Rome with an impressive harmony inside where highlights the huge dome. The tomb of Raphael, the great artist, is inside the Pantheon, and is one of the most visited places of Rome. Piazza della Rotonda is one of the most beautiful squares of Rome. Hotels in Rome
