Pompeii is a city frozen in time.
Situated near Naples, was totally destroyed by a volcanic eruption of Vesuvius in the year 79 AD. Pompeii is considered World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The city was caught between the volcano and the sea so there was no escape. A sudden change of wind brought a huge cloud of hot ash that burned everything, people had no time to flee. Aristocrats and slaves died together. Pompeii was a city where many wealthy Romans had houses. A visit to Pompeii shows the power of nature, you can walk the streets and see the old town shops, houses, theatres and markets.
