The capital of Alsace is located near
the border of France with Germany. Strasbourg is a charming city which houses the headquarters of the European Parliament MEPs. It is an important commercial and industrial centre and its port is the second largest of the Rhine (the first is in Duisburg in Germany). The historic centre of Strasbourg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and looks fabulous medieval especially where it stands the majestic Notre Dame Cathedral, the tallest church in France and the fourth in the world. It was built in the 15th century and is one of the greatest examples of Gothic style. Close by is the Petit France area with a channel and a concentration of houses very picturesque. Strasbourg has Germanic influences because they belonged to Germany after the Franco-Prussian War. The large fortifications around Strasbourg were built by the Germans. The French national anthem “La Marseillaise” was composed in Strasbourg in 1792 by Claude de Lisle. You should visit the Baroque Palais Rohan that houses three museums, Fine Arts, Decorative Arts and Archaeology. Also you must see the Museum of Modern and Contemporary, the 15th-century Maison Kammerzell and the view from the 17th-century Barrage Vauban (weir) on the river. Hotels in Strasbourg
