The Conciergerie is a magnificent
Gothic palace situated on the Ile de la Cité in Paris. Built by Philip the Fair, between 1301 and 1315, is rich in history, part of the building was converted into a prison controlled by the concierge or keeper of the king’s palace, that’s the origin of the name. During the revolution, the prison was a place of terror, thousands of people were arrested here and waited in the Conciergerie the execution on the guillotine. Don’t miss the Salle des Gardes, the Salle des Gens d’Armes, the Tower Bonbec, and the Torture Chambers. Outside is the Tour de L’Horloge, the first public clock in Paris, which still works.
