Hagia Sophia means Holy Wisdom,

was built between 532 and 537 by the Byzantine Empire to the cathedral of Constantinople (now Istanbul). It was an Orthodox church for over 1000 years, for nearly 50 Catholic and Islamic nearly 500, is a museum since 1931. Situated opposite the Blue Mosque is an amazing architecture with marble and other materials brought from Asia and Egypt. The huge central dome rests on two domes creating a huge interior space. After the city was conquered by the Turks in 1453 Hagia Sophia (Aya Sofya in Turkish) became a mosque and four minarets were added. Most of the Sultans always something added to the building. Much of its interior are treasures plundered during the Crusades.
