The Grand Bazaar of Istanbul also known as
Kapaliçarsi Bazaar is the largest covered market in the world with 20 ha (50 acres), has around 4000 shops and 65 streets. It has eleven ports of entry and exit and inside you can find all that is possible to buy an exotic ambience. Mehmet the Conqueror took the city after Constantinople from the Christians in 1453 and began construction of the bazaar in order to boost trade. Since that time the structure of the bazaar is the same although it has suffered major fires and even an earthquake. Like the ancient medinas, the Kapaliçarsi is divided into specific areas that sell goods such as antiques, jewelry, leather, spices and carpets. Throughout the market is selling hot and cold drinks, coffee, tea, water and everything you need to keep the market a few hours. The prices of the shops of the bazaar are always negotiable with the seller friendly Turks. It’s one of the highlights of Istanbul. Hotels in Istanbul
