Basel is the third largest city in Switzerland after
Zurich and Geneva and lies on the River Rhine very close the borders with France and Germany. Basel is a major industrial center, the railway hub with three stations, one in each country networks. Five bridges connect the two halves of Basel (locally known as Greater and Lesser Basel). It is a modern city with beautiful buildings, including Messturm, the tallest building in Switzerland. Don’t miss the Minster Church on Minster Square, the St Martin’s Tower and the Marktplatz. There are some medieval gates in Basel such as Spalentor, St Johannstor and St Albantor.
