Since the 9th century that Pamplona

is the capital of the province of Navarra in northern Spain. It is believed that owes its name to have been founded by the Roman general Pompey. Ernest Hemingway helped put Pamplona on the map when he spoke of the San Fermin festivities in his book “The Sun Also Rises.” These festivities begin on July 6 when the crowd goes out to sing “Viva San Fermin” and end July 14 in the main square singing Basque songs. The festival lasts eight days non stop, one of the main points are the San Fermin running of the bulls (The Encierro) when six bulls are released on the streets of the old town and are referred to the bullring. Along the way the popular place ahead and run the bulls, there are often serious and sometimes even deaths. Pamplona has a beautiful medieval military architecture which is due to Philip II to defend the French. The main landmarks in Pamplona are the Cathedral, the Museum of Navarra and the Citadel.
