The southwest of the Portuguese region of Alentejo,
is a protected area by Vicentine Coast Natural Park, that in the southern most part also ocuppies the Atlantic coast of the Algarve, the southernmost region of mainland Portugal. Sagres, on the southern tip, during the 15th century, was home to great Portuguese navigators as Prince Henry the Navigator, Vasco da Gama and Ferdinand of Magellan.
