The levadas on the island of Madeira,
are irrigation canals that divert excess water from the mountains to the rest of the island. A walk in those levadas, can be a very beautiful journey with breathtaking views along the way. There are more than 2000 km (1250 mi) of canals that delight visitors. The Levada of Caldeirão Verde, built in the 18th century, is one of the most beautiful walks in Madeira. Don’t miss also the Levada of 25 Fontes (Fountains), the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Madeira’s Laurissilva Forest anf the volcanic caves of São Vicente. Hotels in Madeira
