Warsaw, capital of Poland, is a modern city
that was quite “punished” during World War II at The Palace of Culture and Science, a gift from Stalin, dominates the Warsaw’s skyline. It is the most important building in the city, Poland instead of overthrowing one of the symbols of the former regime, chose to transform it into a center of entertainment and incorporated it into the country’s future. Over 80% of the buildings in Warsaw were destroyed in World War II, most were rebuilt as they were. The beautiful old town (Stare Miasto) has ancient palaces, squares and houses of 17th and 18th century that contrast with the Stalinist architecture around the Constitution Square. Warsaw has lots of palaces, the most beautiful are the Wilanow Palace, the Presidential Palace, Staszic Palace, Belweder Palace, Krasinski Palace, Jablonowski Palace, Kazimierovski Palace, the Palace on the Water and the Myslewicki Palace.
