Gdansk is located in northern Poland, on the Baltic Sea.

It is a beautiful port city with a very long history. The Fort of Gdansk, was built in 980 by Mieszko I of Poland, as a defense against the attacks of the pagans. Gdansk in the early 14th century, was a huge commercial center, had about 10 thousand inhabitants, but in 1308 was conquered by the Teutonic Knights. Under the control of the Teutonic Knights, Gdansk flourished and in 1361, became full member of the Hanseatic League, a trading monopoly that dominated operations in the Baltic. Gdansk in the mid-16th century, was the most important port in the Baltic and largest city of Poland. It is today a city with a rich medieval architecture, many of the buildings date from the time of the Hanseatic League. Don’t miss the Long Street, the Long Market, the Royal Road, the Golden Gate, the Old City Fortifications, the building of the Brotherhood of St George, the St Mary’s Church, the Town Hall, the National Museum and the Oliwa Cathedral and Monastery. In just 20 minute train journey, you can get the seaside town of Sopot and the city of Gdynia, both deserve a visit. The World War II started in Gdansk. Hotels in Gdansk
