The Neuschwanstein Castle was built
on a hill 92 m (300 ft). The Royal palace in the Bavarian Alps in Germany is the most famous of the three palaces built for Louis II of Bavaria, sometimes called “Mad King Ludwig”. The castle has been beautifully designed by Christian Jank, is located near Hohenschwangau, near the border with Austria. The castle is huge and whimsical, and inspired Walt Disney in the design of Cinderella’s castle. The castle was opened to the public in 1886. It is a great example of the romanticism of the 19th century, has a winding road that connects the valley to the front gate. After 17 years of work, only 14 of the 360 rooms were completed before Ludwig’s death, but those 14 rooms are worth the trip. The highlights of the interior of Neuschwanstein Castle are the Throne Room and the inspirations in the composer Wagner like Tannhauser in the Study, the Meistersinger of Nurnberg in the Dressing Room, the Lohengrin in the Salon and Study, and the Niberungenlied in the Dining Room and Lowerhall. The Bedroom, that is neo-gothic in style, has paintings of scenes from Tristan and Isolde. You can get Hohenschwangau, the city near the castle, from Munich. Fussen is also close the castle.
