Munich

Munich is the third largest city in Germany,

located on the River Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. It started with a monastery and the crossing of the river in the 12th century with the dukes of Bavaria to rule over until 1918. After World War I, Munich lived turbulent days, starting with the Communists and ending with Hitler’s Nazis, who regarded the city as its centre. There were several buildings called “fuhrer” around the Konigsplatz, the Dachau concentration camp was nearby. Times have changed, Munich is now a modern city and monumental, the heart is at Marienplatz. Munich is a city of beautiful churches, such as the Romanesque St. Peters, and the 15th century Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Lady). There are four major avenues that converge to the center, the neoclassical Brienner Strasse, the Italianate Ludwigstrasse, and the monumental neogothic Maximilianstrasse and the Prinzregentstrasse. Munich is probably the most expensive city in Germany. The automobile giant BMW has its headquarters in Munich. The most famous beer festival in the world is the Oktoberfest held annually in Munich. Not so far from Munich is the wonderful castle of Neuschwanstein. Hotels in Munich
