Guangzhou, located in Pearl River,
is the capital of Guangdong province. In English it is known as Canton, it was the birthplace of the Chinese revolutionary Sun Yat-Sen, the first president of China. Guangzhou has been inhabited since the 3rd century BC. The old city centre is in Liwan District where some of the main tourist sites are located. Xiguan is a residential area with old houses and is usually inhabited by upper class families. Visit the Temple of the Six Trees (Liurong Temple) and Flower Pagoda (Hua Ta) of the 3rd century. Shamian Island houses many colonial era buildings, including the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Another important church is the Shishi Sacred Heart Church. You can also visit Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall Yuexiu Hill and Chen Clan Ancestral Temple. There are museums that should be visited in Guangzhou such as the City Art Museum, Guangdong Museum of Art, the Guangdong Revolution History Museum and President Sun Yat-Sen Museum.
