Houtman Abrolhos Islands is a chain
of 122 coral islands, 60 km (37 mi) off the coast of Geraldton in Western Australia. The warm and temperate waters are excellent for diving and discover the magic of coral reefs. Besides the corals and colourful fish, in Houtman Abrolhos sea lions can also be seen just like wallabies and 90 species of seabirds. In the waters of the archipelago there are abundant lobsters. Don’t miss the Long Island Dive Trail. The islands are named Houtman because the Dutch commander Frederick de Houtman came across them in June 1619. Abrolhos derives from the Portuguese expression “abre os olhos” that means “keep your eyes open” and it is better to do it in these reefs. The Dutch East India Company ship of Batavia is wrecked on Houtman Abrolhos and a major tourist spot. North Island is the biggest of the archipelago. Hotels in Geraldton
