Tioman Island is the largest of an archipelago
with 60 islands all of volcanic origin. The beaches are stunning and are in harmony with the mountains of the area creating a perfect setting. The first records were in Tioman 10th century by Arab traders. After this period traders from India, from Persia and China also went through there. The recent history of the island is curious, in 1830 the inhabitants left the island of Tioman after the pirates had taken 70 people to the slave trade. After a few years deserted, Tioman again lost residents in 1920 after a major outbreak of malaria have wiped out the entire population. Used by the Japanese in World War II as a base, returned to be uninhabitable in 1950 was used as the setting for a musical and even to this day is known as one of the most beautiful islands in Malaysia.
