The island of Borneo belongs to three countries,
Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak provinces), Indonesia (Kalimantan) and Brunei, small independent country. Brunei is rich because of oil, palm oil and natural gas. Kalimantan is rich in oil, gas, minerals, gold, diamonds, timber and palm oil. On the Malaysian side, stands out the Mount Kinabalu, at 4095 m º(13434 ft) is the highest mountain in the island, belongs to a National Park and is considered by UNESCO a World Heritage Site. The population of Borneo jumped from 9 million in 1990 to 16 million in 2010. The luxuriant primary rainforest and the vast wildlife are the highlights of Borneo. There are flights from Malaysia peninsular, Singapore and Indonesia and ferries from Java and Sulawesi. The main cities in Borneo are Miri, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau and Sandakan in Malaysia, Samarinda, Banjarmasin, Balikpapan and Pontianak in Indonesia and finally Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei.
