On the banks of the Mekong River,
near the border with Thailand, lies the capital of Laos, Vientiane. Although capital of a country in Southeast Asia, Vientiane is a small city, and very charming with plenty of influences from Paris. The major landmark of Vientiane is the Patuxai (Victory Gate), built in 1960 to commemorate the struggle for independence from France. Curiously the Patuxai resembles the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The Great Stupa (Pha That Luang) is an important Buddhist temple built in the 3rd century. The Black Stupa (That Dam) is also a temple to visit, such as Wat Si Saket the oldest temple in Vientiane. It’s worth strolling along the Mekong River. Around Vientiane lies the Buddha Park, there are daily excursions. Hotels in Vientiane
