The islands east of Bali are collectively known
as Nusa Tenggara, all of them, Lombok is the most famous. Mataram is the capital of Lombok. The landscape of Lombok is dominated by its northern mountains, their slopes where the forest stands Mount Rinjani, the second highest volcano in Indonesia. The western side of Lombok is lush, south and east are drier. 90% of the population of Lombok is composed of indigenous Sasak. The Sasaks have their own language and culture, the predominant religion is Islam, but they also have their own religion, Wektu Telu, a mixture of Islamic, Hindu and animist beliefs.
