The Portuguese ruled Diu until 1961,
now is governed from Delhi but the marks of that possession are present in this small island. Diu is only 42 sq km (18 sq mi) lying off the south coast of the Peninsula of Gujarat Kathiawar. The Portuguese distinctive atmosphere is still preserved, the Old Town has narrow streets and beautiful buildings in Lusitanian style. There are three stunning churches, St Paul’s the only used as a church, St Francis, now a hospital and St Thomas, a museum and a guest-house. There are Muslims, Hindus and Christians that co-exists with harmony. Diu has lovely beaches, the most known is Nagoa Beach. Don’t miss the Portuguese Fort, the Shell Museum, the former jail Fortim-do-Mar and the small village of Vanakbori. There are flights from Mumbai to Diu. Hotels in Gujarat
