Cozumel
Cozumel is a beautiful island
located 20 km (12 mi) from the mainland and 60 km (36 mi) south of Cancun. It is one of the major tourist attractions in Yucatan, Mexico, was popularized in 1960 when Jacques Cousteau said it was one of the best places in the world for diving. In 1996 was created the National Marine Park to control excessive tourism, people around the world want to swim, dive and snorkel in Cozumel. The island has limestone formations and is pierced by dozens of cenotes (water filled sinkholes). The Mayan culture is present in Cozumel, San Gervasio is the most important site.
