Brazilians say that God made the world in six days
and the seventh was devoted to Rio de Janeiro. It is a huge city on the coast of the South Atlantic Ocean, Rio has a majestic backdrop of mountains, small islands and sea, these landcapes are considered World Heritage Site by UNESCO. From the statue of Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) on the top of Corcovado you can get stunning view over the city. You can get a clear view of 220 km (137 mi) of beaches south of Guanabara Bay. The famous beaches of Copacabana, Leblon and Ipanema allow breathtaking sunsets. Rio has a great mix of color, culture, art and charm and reaches its peak during Carnival. Sometimes it is said that Rio is the capital of Brazil, but is not, Brasilia is the capital of the country. The Rio de Janeiro is divided into four zones, the South where Copacabana and Ipanema and some of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city are located. The Central region includes Santa Teresa and financial centre, the Northern area where the Maracana Stadium is and West where lies Barra da Tijuca a neighborhous famous for its beaches. The inhabitants of Rio are called Cariocas. The Corcovado is one of the most exciting places in Rio, a granite mountain with the Statue of Christ the Redeemer on its top. Another peak is the famous Sugar Loaf and both hills have unbelievable views over the city including the wonderful Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon. Don’t miss also the Botanical Garden and the Tijuca National Park. A 20 minute train ride (1300 m/4265 ft) using the Corcovado Rack Railway is the best way to getting to Christ the Redeemer. Here is also a great place to watch the sunset. Santa Teresa and Glória are two famous neighborhoods that deserve a visit. The world’s most awaited festival lasts almost two weeks, the Carnival of Rio is one of the most glamorous parties and a parade of art and color with samba groups to create a unique and exotic environment. Rio is known as Cidade Maravilhosa (Wonderful City) and is one of the most beautiful cities of the world. Don’t miss the famous archaeological site, Valongo Wharf declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Hotels in Rio de Janeiro
