Goias, also known as
Cidade de Goiás and Goiás Velho, is a small town that was the capital of the state of Goiás. Its historic centre was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001, Goiás has a very peculiar baroque architecture. Tourism is the economic basis but Goiás was an important mining town, had large reserves of gold and lived glorious times which resulted in the construction of buildings such as Colégio Sant’Ana, the Church of Nossa Senhora d’Abadia, the Museum of Flags and Casa da Fundição. The church has a beautiful altar painted in blue and gold, very close there are some streets in the city center with a colonial style homes. The city is a perfect example of the fusion of European constructions adapted to conditions in South America, Goiás is a great getaway to visit Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park and Emas National Park both declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
