Fernando de Noronha is an archipelago
of 21 islands, an idyllic paradise and one of the most important ecological sanctuaries in the world. It is since 2001 UNESCO World Heritage Site. The National Marine Park of verdant mountains, cliffs and stunning beaches are apparently abandoned in the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The waters around the islands are home to many species of fish, rays, sharks and spinner dolphins. At the Baía dos Golfinhos (Dolphin Bay) each morning join more than 1,000 dolphins to play, providing one of the best dance performances of nature. There are plenty of turtles around here that use many of the beaches to leave their eggs. The only inhabited island of the whole archipelago is the island of Fernando de Noronha. The rules for the visit to Fernando de Noronha are very strict, there is a major environmental concern and the island can only be visited by 420 people at once. The number of tourists is always low so as not to damage the natural heritage which is very rich. There are very few tourist inns, and all are environmentally sustainable. December and January is when there is more demand to visit Fernando de Noronha. The island has two different faces, smooth coastline facing Brazil and rough and rocky coast facing the Atlantic. There is only one road connecting the Baía do Sueste (South East Bay) and the Baía de Santo António (Bay of San Antonio), next Vila dos Remedios where the majority of the population. Here you will find the town hall, church, post office, a shop for diving and a bar. Another small cluster called the Vila do Trinta, has a few restaurants. The Forte dos Remedios was a legacy left by the Portuguese who were here in the 18th century, the walls, old cannons were built in 1737. Very close there is Igreja Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, a pure baroque, very picturesque and yellow. Do not miss also the São Miguel Palace, an excellent example of colonial architecture. The smaller islands and uninhabited, are characterized by having different formations, Meio Island looks like an inverted pyramid. Another island resembles a saddle of a cowboy, another a small mushroom. Leila recalls a sea lion and a Ilha Frade looks like a bell. Fernando de Noronha it’s one of the world’s best dive spots. The cities of Natal and Recife are the best getaways to get this wonderful islands. Hotels in Recife
