On the southern coast of Bahia,
the Maraú Peninsula is an area of beaches, rainforests, rivers and waterfalls. Barra Grande is the main village in the bay, the third largest bay in Brazil. Barra Grande is a great gateway to explore this paradise. The village is small, mostly inhabited by fishermen, a quiet place that seems far from everything, has a simple architecture and cared for, surrounded by lush gardens with exotic plants and flowers in bright colors like purple, orange, yellow and red. Although small, this picturesque village has a vast cultural diversity. Proliferate mango trees but the main reason to visit Barra Grande are the beaches. The best known is the Mangueiras Beach with white sand and calm blue waters. It’s a great place to relax with a caipirinha (most typical drink of Brazil) at sunset. The diversity of marine life is great, activities such as snorkeling or scuba diving are frequent. Salvador has the closest international airport to Barra Grande, Ilheus is the nearest city with domestic flights. Don’t miss Camamu Bay, Pedra Furada Island and the small village of Campinhos.
